Brewers score early, hold off Royals rally to win 8–5 behind Contreras and Sánchez
The Brewers closed out the series finale in Kansas City with an 8–5 win, jumping on the Royals early and then holding off a late push. Milwaukee scored three runs in the first inning, with William Contreras scoring on Christian Yelich’s RBI triple before Gary Sánchez launched a two-run homer to put the Brewers in front 3–0.
Milwaukee kept adding on from there. Blake Perkins doubled home Brandon Lockridge in the fourth, and Contreras delivered the biggest RBI hit of the day in the seventh with a two-run single that scored Brice Turang and Luis Rengifo. Contreras finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored, while Yelich went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Sánchez added his home run and 2 RBIs, giving the middle of the order a big impact in the win.
On the mound, Kyle Harrison gave the Brewers a strong start, working 5 1/3 innings and allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Milwaukee’s bullpen had to navigate some pressure late after Kansas City scored three in the seventh, but the Brewers still finished the job to secure the victory.
Kansas City was led by Maikel Garcia, whose two-run homer in the third got the Royals on the board before he added another RBI single in the seventh. Vinnie Pasquantino also drove in two runs during Kansas City’s late rally, but Milwaukee’s early offense gave them enough cushion to stay ahead.
